On the occasion of Bergamo Brescia Capital of Culture 2023, the Pro Loco Association of Trescore Balneario in partnership with the Pro Loco of Caprino Bergamasco and the Accademia Carrara of Bergamo and with the support of the municipalities of Trescore Balneario, Ponteranica, Credaro and Caprino Bergamasco, has launched a project to enhance the works of the painter Lorenzo Lotto present in the territories where the above-mentioned entities are based.
Lorenzo Lotto, one of the main representatives of the Venetian Renaissance of the early 16th century, spent no less than 13 years of his life, from 1513 to 1526, in Bergamo.
To understand Lorenzo Lotto’s Bergamo stay to its fullest extent, one must venture into the province of Bergamo and discover his works scattered throughout the area: a living testimony to the appreciation enjoyed by the painter, who in the Bergamo hinterland left half of the frescoes that can be attributed to him with certainty and for which he painted altarpieces even at times after his return to Venice, shipped to the Bergamo province (then part of the dominions of the Serenissima) thanks to the efforts of local patrons who remembered his golden years, the Bergamo years.
Such works have thus become an opportunity to enhance all aspects of the area where they are located, focusing on the seasonality that characterizes the landscapes, products and festivals of each place.
The rediscovery of the territory from a slow and sustainable perspective was one of the primary objectives of the “Stagioni del Lotto – Seasons of Lotto” project.
On the one hand, through this initiative we wish to increase the enjoyment of the artistic, naturalistic, landscape and food and wine offerings of the territories adhering to the project, and on the other hand, to improve their knowledge by focusing particularly on the beauties and riches yet to be discovered and enhanced, including the wonderful works of Lorenzo Lotto, represening a great potential for the development of local economies.
The Le Stagioni del Lotto project obtained funding from the Cariplo Foundation and the Bergamo and Brescia Community Foundations together for the territory on the Capital of Culture 2023 call. Thanks to this funding, this web app was created, the joint openings of the four churches in 2023 and a volume dedicated to the Lotto itineraries in Bergamo.
